After a short tenure between the 2016-2017 season, Mr. Yanni Hufnagel confirmed his departure from the University of Nevada’s Wolf Pack program amid rumors and speculation. This follows a mutual decision by both the university and Mr. Hufnagel himself, though the reason for his decision is still unclear. Mr. Hufnagel joined the Wolf Pack program as an assistant coach, working together with great names like Ronal Dupree and Dave Rice to see the basketball team through the NCAA tournament for the first time in 10 years. Moreover, the team also grabbed various Mountain West tournament titles in the same season.
Mr. Hufnagel displayed incredible energy and charisma in his job and unrivaled dogma especially in the recruiting process that is imperative to the success of a team. The head coach of The University of Nevada Basketball team commented on his great work ethic and the excellent reviews he received from his previous employers. He also became a team favorite possibly because of his enthusiasm for the sport and his genuine interest in the welfare of the team. His decision to leave the wolf pack will most likely be a great blow to the basketball team and the University of Nevada in general.
Before his tenure in the wolf pack program, Mr. Hufnagel served as an assistant coach at the University of Oklahoma where he was a grad assistant, Havard, Vanderbilt and the Cal where his recruitments skills were of great help to the recruitment of Cuonzo Martin. He also possesses strong academic credentials having completed his undergraduate at Cornell University and obtained his Master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma.
Though it is not clear whether Mr. Hufnagel’s decision to leave the Wolf Pack also influenced his partner Ronald Dupree’s decision to do the same, what is for sure is that Yanni Hufnagel has left some huge shoes to fill.
