Felipe Montoro Jens Points to a Mutually Beneficial Partnership to Tackle the Sanitation Problem

To tackle the problem of sanitation and hygiene, the Brazilian government has announced of striking a deal with National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES). This would be a private initiative where via concessions, they would try to address sanitation problems and bring about a streamlined and more effective management of both structure and resources. Edison Carlos, the president of Trata Brasil also spoke about it in an interview. Trata Brasil is the private company looking after the basic sanitation of this third world country. Felipe Montoro, an infrastructure expert also produced a report on the interview with Edison Carlos.

 

Edison pointed out that presently of the 90 percent of sanitation that is controlled by public entities, 70 percent hails from state organizations. BNDES would be conducting a survey of the sanitation situation in different states and then would come up with a customized plan to target unique problems of each state. The partnership would turn out to be mutually beneficial as the private sector can exploit the experience of the public entities that in turn can make use of more efficient and advanced technology of the private sector.

 

Felipe Montoro Jens voiced the financial wastage by the state water companies as one of the biggest cause of the sanitation problem in the country. He reiterated that the private sector had both finance and technology to vastly improve the situation but strongly advised the public entities to check their commercial waste and make finance available to invest in improved networks.

 

With a graduate degree from Getulio Vargas Foundation and post graduate degree from the Thunderbird School of Global Management, Felipe today commands abundant respect as the CEO of at Energipar Captacao S.A which he joined in 2007 as Head of Project of Finance. Before this, he had been the Director of three different companies.
